Diva Challenge #318 – Diptych

Diva Challenge #231 Entry
Diptych tangle: Printemps, Viaduct, and Sand Swirl

The challenge from the Diva this week is to create a diptych tile.  What is a diptych you ask? To quote Laura Harms on her blog: “A diptych is two panels joined with a hinge – and the panels are mirrored – and i use the term ‘mirrored’ loosely.”

Previously I had encountered the term “diptych” in connection with photographs. Frequently they are presented as side-by-side photos which are related in some way (for example, “Before and After” pictures). The idea of tangling a diptych was something new and interesting!

For my tile I used Sand Swirl as the hinge to unify the two sides. In the middle I drew rows of Viaduct and mirrored them on the other side. Lastly I filled in the remaining areas with Printemps in “mirrored” fashion and added shading.

Thanks to the Diva for another great Zentangle challenge!

Diva Challenge #268 – A Bit of Black

Tile for Diva Challenge #268

This week’s Diva challenge is to add more black than usual to the tile. Since I had been wanting to do a tangle using StoneStory by Tina- Akua Hunziker, CZT that is what I focused on.  What could be more zen than a pile of stones? I also added some Printemps and Fescu. This was a fun challenge!

Catching up a bit, I also drew a tile for the Diva’s Use My Tangle (UMT) challenge (#266) featuring Crux by Henrike Bratz. I included two variations on Crux and then added N’Zeppel and Nymph.

Diva Challenge #250 – Bringing It Back to the Old School

Diva Challenge #250 Entry
Tile for Diva Challenge #250 (8C, Finery, Paradox, Printemps)

For this week’s challenge the Diva asks participants to get back to the roots of Zentangle. As she notes in her blog post, the goal is a  “return to the ceremony” of tangling. Rather than debating what size tile to use, or to select a color, or any of that, the idea is to pay close attention to the process. After all, Zentangle is a mindful art form which improves focus and helps with relaxation.

Using a standard white 3.5″ square tile, black pen, and pencil, I created the above piece.  My string was simple and divided the area into triangles, squares, and rectangles. I had not drawn 8C before and wanted to try it. In the lower sections I chose to go with official tangles: Finery, Paradox, and Printemps.

As always, thanks to the Diva for another great challenge. Getting back to basics is always a good exercise.
